Mellel was founded in 2002 by Eyal and Ori Redler. Eyal was the brilliant programmer. He wrote Mellel. Ori did stuff, which was anything between "a lot" and "not really all that much."
The first version of Mellel, Mellel 1.0, was release early in 2002. It was glacial, but it did the job, which was to write. By August 2002, Mellel was a real product, worth real money. By August 11, four days after Mellel 1.3.2 was released, we had our first paying customer. He paid USD12. By the end of the month we had 25 of those. By the end of 2002, Mellel looked less a part-time hobby and more like an actual day job.
There have been many changes to Mellel over the years: It advanced tirelessly from 1.3.2 to 1.9.1, then to Mellel 2.0 (which was a very big deal) and then to 3.0 to the present, with Mellel 4.0 and 4.1 and 5.0. Wow, it's been what - 21 years. Mellel is still going strong!
