Mellel 6.3 is Here!

Mellel 6.3 introduces improvements to notes (footnotes and endnotes) functionality and user interface and improvements to spelling.

Chapter Notes

Two new note positions have been added, you can now place notes at the end of a section or at the end of a page range. Page Range Notes allow you to place notes at the end of a chapter instead or in addition to notes at the end of a document. Section Notes allow you to have notes for sub-sections of a chapter, for example, you can place a table inside its own section and have the notes for that table immediately follow it.

Reference and Note Symbol Synchronization

When changing the reference symbol, Mellel will automatically synchronize the note symbol. You can still change the note symbol seperately by checking the but the default is to assume they are the same.

Note Formatting Preview

A preview was added to Configure Note Streams and Edit Note Style windows. The preview allows you to immediately see how your changes affect the appearance of the note reference, text and divider.

Clear Layout for Configuration Windows

Note streams window has been renamed to "Configure Notes...". The layout of Configure Note Streams and Edit Note Style windows was revised with bigger controls and more room to ease and clarify editing.

Contextual Menus

Contextual menus (brought up by right-clicking) have been enhanced and revised regarding notes. A Configure Notes item brings up the configuration window from within a note or a note reference. Go to Note Reference item allows you to jump from the note text to the note reference (in addition to pressing escape which was always there). In addition to that, when the configuration window is opened, the relevant note stream is automatically selected.

Spelling Changes

When Spell as You Type mode is on, pasted text is automatically checked and suspected spelling errors are highlighted.

Upgrading

Mellel 6.3 is a free upgrade to anyone who bought Mellel after February 2023; For customers who bought Mellel before that date the upgrade price is $44.99. Mac App Store customers can upgrade to the direct version under the same conditions. See our update guide for a step-by-step guide to upgrading.
